Docs: Midwest City man arrested after shooting at car involved in hit-and-run

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) – A Midwest City man is facing criminal charges after court documents say he admitted to shooting at a vehicle that hit his parked car and tried to leave the scene.

The incident happened November 6 in a Douglas Boulevard liquor store parking lot. News 4 spoke with the manager of that store, who agreed to share more details on the conditions we didn't use his name or identify the business.

"Had customers come purchase a couple of items, as they were leaving, somebody hit their car in the parking lot," the manager said.

The manager says he heard the crash and witnessed Karon Willis and another person with him run outside the store. In surveillance video he shared with us, you can hear a single gunshot, although he says there were several fired before it. You can also hear a female asking someone "why they would do that," saying that they needed to get the cameras and call the police.

The manager identified Willis as the shooter.

"He went to the trunk of his car, pulled out a firearm, just started shooting up Douglas Boulevard," the manager said.

Court documents say Willis admitted to shooting at the vehicle that he says hit his own. That vehicle had a driver and passenger inside of it, and allegedly left the scene.

A Midwest City Police sergeant noted in a report that the driver and passenger of that vehicle were not hurt, but had a bullet hole in their vehicle.

"I need to get the cops out here was the first thought," the manager said. "Also checking to make sure I didn't have any customers in the area that I need to worry about."

The manager said he was prepared, in case Willis tried to reenter the store with the weapon, but that didn't happen.

Court documents say Willis called 911 to report a hit and run, and explained the incident to officers. Willis allegedly admitted to officers that the hit-and-run took place and that he had shot at the second vehicle while it fled the scene.

Willis was arrested and booked into the Midwest City Police Department jail before being transported to the Oklahoma County Jail.

Jail administrators told News 4 he posted bond, but when News 4 employees stopped by his address to try and get his side of the story, no one answered the door.

Willis faces two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The manager of the liquor store says he wishes Willis hadn't done what he saw with his own eyes.

"Not in a situation like that," the manager said. "Definitely not, no they definitely overreacted."
