Arab media have reported that the death toll from Israel’s airstrike on the historic city of Palmyra in Syria has risen to 61, with dozens injured.

According to Al-Hadath news outlet, citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, approximately 110 people were killed and injured in the Israeli attacks on Palmyra.

The deadly airstrike, carried out on Wednesday, targeted at least three residential areas in the historic city of Palmyra, located in central Syria, leaving at least 61 dead.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed the deaths of four Hezbollah members and 22 non-Syrian nationals in the attack.

The deadly strike on the ancient city of Palmyra has triggered widespread international reactions and condemnation.

Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a renowned tourist destination in Syria, suffered significant destruction during the Israeli attack.

Notably, the Israeli military has carried out a total of 152 airstrikes in Syria since the beginning of this year, reflecting an ongoing pattern of conflict.

The airstrike on Palmyra raises critical concerns about the protection of cultural heritage during conflicts, as the ancient city’s historical and cultural significance makes its destruction a global loss.

The international community must prioritize diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing violence in the region, ensuring the safety of civilians and the preservation of invaluable cultural landmarks like Palmyra.
