Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Security Allegedly Cost $1 Million of UK Taxpayers’ Money

0

Okay, buckle in for this one because we’re going to be throwing a lot of dollar signs and reports your way about Taylor Swift’s UK leg of her Eras tour. As many fans know, Swift had to cancel three concerts in Vienna, Austria, after a foiled terrorist plot that was supposed to take place at her shows. Since then, she’s upped the ante on security measures (understandably so), but apparently, all the security came with a hefty price.

Now, the added security cost the Metropolitan Police nearly $1 million of taxpayers’ money. (Don’t get it twisted, this was already money taken from taxpayers, not another thing taxpayers have to pay up.) You may be wondering, how did the security measures cost that much?

Well, according to The US Sun, it cost the Met around $880,000 to provide security for each of Swift’s UK concerts. Along with that, Swift’s team requested $200,000 worth of security measures, including a blue-light escort. Also, they supplied 1,100 cops for around $85,000 per night, and then nearly $130,000 when she returned in August.

Allegedly, Swift’s mom, Andrea, who also acts as her manager, was the one to negotiate with officials to make the padded security changes happen. (In fact, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper even intervened to convince the Met to alleviate some rules, according to the outlet.)

Fast forward to today, Swift will be ending her Eras tour on Dec 8 in Vancouver, Canada, and her UK shows went swimmingly (and during her time in the UK, we got an on-stage appearance from her boyfriend, Travis Kelce).
