‘Survivor 47’ Episode 10 recap: Who was voted out in ‘Loyal to the Soil’? [LIVE BLOG]
Heading into the 10th episode of “Survivor 47,” Solomon “Sol” Yi had just been eliminated by a near-unanimous vote, with Genevieve Mushaluk leading the charge against him. That left nine people still on the island — four from the original Tuku tribe, three from Gata, and two from Lavo. So who ended up having their torch snuffed on Wednesday night?

8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Survivor’!” In the ninth episode, Gabe, Kyle, Sol, and Teeny won the reward meal, with Gabe also taking the immunity necklace. Sam, Rachel, Caroline, and Andy performed the worst in the challenge and lost their votes, with all but Caroline winning their votes back on a journey. Genevieve wanted to make a big move by getting Sol out of the game, and (after an elongated whisper-fest at tribal council) she got her way; Sol was booted by an 8-to-1 vote over Sue. Who will be eliminated tonight?
8:02 p.m. – That night back at camp, tensions were highest between Teeny and Genevieve because Teeny realized that once again Genevieve “completely blindsided” by one of her closest alliance members. When they got a chance to speak together, Teeny expressed the hurt she feels for not including her and Genevieve responded by emphasizing that Sol was never good for her own game and the emotional connection that the two of them have to each other is why she had to leave Teeny out. Genevieve never expected that Teeny would feel “humiliated” by the decision, but by the end of their conversation they both acknowledged that they can’t win the million dollars together and will have to break from each other eventually.
8:07 p.m. – The next morning, Genevieve had to reckon with the open understanding that she was personally responsible for the Sol vote and knew she’d have to “be careful” with her new high profile as a strategist in the game. Her and Andy both agreed that the next vote has to be against the Tuku four because they’re too big of a block together. When Andy spoke with Sam later, Sam considered that they might need to delay going against Tuku because of how scary Genevieve can be to leave in the game. The many conversations Andy had throughout the morning showed him that he has a lot of options now and can go in any direction with anyone.
8:15 p.m. – For the next challenge, the final nine broke into randomized teams of three to compete for reward. Each player was tied at their hands and feet and required to slither through the sand pushing a ball forward with their head. Then, at a ramp, each of the three had to roll a ball successfully on to a target at the end. The team that finished first earned a trip to the sanctuary for a refreshing lunch. The teams were Genevieve, Sue and Teeny in yellow, Andy, Caroline and Gabe in red, and Kyle, Rachel and Sam in blue.
8:17 p.m. – In the sand crawl, Kyle got blue out to an early lead using mostly his shoulder to push the ball forward compared to much slower movement from Genevieve and Andy. Rachel went second for blue and lapped Genevieve entirely, allowing Sam to get on the course as the final person for blue way ahead of the other teams. Sam was able to finish the course quicker than the second players from both yellow and red and so they started on the ramp roll with a hefty lead. By the time Gabe caught the red team up to blue, both Rachel and Kyle had sunk their balls in the target and then on the first attempt, Sam sunk their third and earned the reward for the blue team.
8:27 p.m. – At the reward lunch, Kyle was the first to bring up strategy and noted that it may be time for him to play “every man for himself” and target Gabe before Gabe targets him. Sam was surprised, but said that he’s “flexible” and “looking for people.” Kyle thought that Sam and Rachel could help stir the pot against Gabe and they told Kyle that if people are “spooked on Tuku” then that’s a smart option. They said that if Gabe gets immunity then they should go for Genevieve because she clearly puts the game ahead of anything else. Rachel listened to the guys discuss what they want, but her priority is to get Genevieve out instead. When her and Sam got to discuss privately, Sam acknowledged that he broke her trust last week, but she wasn’t necessarily ready to trust him with information anymore.
8:31 p.m. – With the goal of building a relationship with someone at Tuku, Andy approached Sue with a plan to go to the end of the game together and to “work really, really closely” going forward. He figured that he could use Sue to escalate the target against Kyle because of how strongly she feels about wanting him out. Meanwhile, Gabe expressed to others that he’s starting to worry about Kyle and a sense that he’s going to try to vote him out soon. Gabe wants to keep Kyle around because he’s been a trusted vote for the entire game, but he also realizes that the longer all of the Tuku players remain in the game, the bigger the target on all of them becomes.
8:33 p.m. – When the reward winners returned, Sam told Andy and Teeny that he wants to get Gabe next and suggested that the three of them “find footing together” in the game. Teeny was willing to “latch on to anything,” including working with Sam. Later that night, Teeny reflected on the fallout with Genevieve and realized that it called up some insecurities she feels about her identity and the discomfort she can feel at times in her own skin and gender identity in a binary world. Then, when her bag caught fire at camp she took it as a sign that there’s an opportunity for “new life in this game” to rejuvenate her will to compete to win.
8:43 p.m. – For the immunity challenge, the nine competed as individuals to balance balls on a wooden disk while also balancing their body on a narrow piece of wood. In timed increments, balls would be added to their discs until the last person with all of their balls active wins. Prior to the start, Jeff challenged four people to sit out this challenge for an exchange of rice to take back to camp. Hoping to negotiate, Gabe asked if Jeff would accept three sit outs and he said no. Caroline asked if he’d accept two Shot in the Dark advantages and he said no. Kyle asked if he’d accept every Shot in the Dark and Jeff considered it, but Sam was the only player hesitant to give his up. He said that he’s on the bottom and the Shot in the Dark is his last chance to save himself when he needs it. Gabe told him that he has a vote and that’s his power in this game, which eventually worked. Sam said that he doesn’t want to keep rice from the group and so he agreed to give his up. With everyone giving it up, Jeff accepted the deal and gave them rice in return for all of their Shot in the Dark advantages.
8:52 p.m. – In the challenge, the first players to drop out were Caroline, Andy, Rachel, Genevieve and Gabe all in the two-ball stage. In the third stage with three balls each, Teeny dropped out almost immediately and then a gust of wind took Sam out, leaving only Kyle and Sue. Eventually Sue dropped as well and so Kyle won his fourth immunity.
9:04 p.m. – As soon as the group got back to camp, Sam, Teeny and Andy got “the ball rolling” on a movement against Gabe because they thought that getting a Tuku out puts control on their side instead of Tuku. Teeny acknowledged that Genevieve’s name will be thrown out, possibly by Gabe, and that it’s tempting to get revenge on her, but she understands that the timing “is not right” to get her. Sure enough, Gabe and the Tuku players suggested Genevieve as the vote because she “emerged too early” as a competitive strategist and she’s dangerous to leave around any longer.
9:07 p.m. – Once she was away from Gabe, Caroline considered going against him because if she goes to the end with him she won’t be able to beat him. So she approached Andy and Teeny to go vote Gabe out, but stressed that it’s important to leave Sue out of it because they’ve close. She also realizes that going against Gabe means going against Sue. When she talked to Rachel, they had to decide what happens when Gabe is out and tried to reposition the eyes on Genevieve for this vote because Gabe will always be a target, but Genevieve might not be. With that in mind, Rachel went to Kyle to point out that if Gabe goes then Kyle because the biggest target and so he should want to leave Gabe around a little longer.
9:10 p.m. – Going into the vote, both Genevieve and Gabe were told by alliance members that the vote was between the two of them and then they acknowledged that fact between the two of them as well. Neither of them knew which one the others would side with, but both believed that if they get through this vote then the game opens up for them and they have a better chance going forward.
9:17 p.m. – At a rain-drenched tribal council, Teeny expressed that there’s been no consistency in the direction of the votes and Sam added that “the criteria shifts” for who to vote out. On the topic of giving up the Shot in the Dark advantages, Sam said it wasn’t what he wanted to do, but it wasn’t a hill he wanted to die on if it meant keeping rice from everyone else. On the topic of the votes, everyone seemed to agree that the mentality is “threat-hunting” to get out players they’re scared of with some discussion of who they want to sit next to at the end and who they don’t want to. Genevieve acknowledged that people spoke to her less today than prior to the Sol vote and so she feels less confident in her game. At the same time, Sam said that this is the first time he doesn’t feel on the outs.
9:24 p.m. – In the voting booth, we saw Genevieve vote for Gabe and Gabe vote for Genevieve. No one played an idol or advantage and so Jeff read the final tally: Gabe, Genevieve, Genevieve, Gabe, Gabe, Gabe, Gabe. In this vote, only Sue was left in the dark, but she was stone cold in her response compared to Genevieve who was surprised to still be in the game.
