Names chosen for new South Colonie mascots

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The South Colonie Central School District has officially chosen names for their new mascots. The names Wolfie and Alpha were adopted last week.

They are based on an origin story written by high school student Izzy Trimarchi where the two wolves are long lost friends, who reconnect on their first day of high school. The superintendent said the story shows how all students have a place in the district.

The district changed their mascot to the Wolf Pack ahead of the 2024-25 school year to comply with a state order requiring public schools to remove mascots and team names with Native American imagery.
