Terrifying Video Shows Sheet Metal Falling Onto Cowboys Stadium Field
Disaster was very narrowly avoided in Texas on Monday night when a piece of sheet metal fell from the roof of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, prior to the start of a game between the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. The scary moment was caught on video, but thankfully no one was injured.
The incident occurred about three hours before kickoff when the team attempted to open the retractable roof. Thankfully, the stadium was not filled with fans when the sheet metal fell down to the field, along with some smaller pieces of debris.
The "horrifying" video was posted to social media by the MLFootball account. "The massive piece of sheet metal falling from the top of AT&T stadium was literally just a couple feet away from potentially killing multiple people by the field," the post read. Surely, if the sheet metal had hit a person it would likely not have ended well.

Dallas sports reporter Jeff Kolb noted that the piece of sheet metal almost hit multiple production workers when it fell.

Shortly after, a worker inspected the roof and made sure to secure another panel. Once the second piece of metal was secured, pregame activities resumed as scheduled and the game was able to start on time. However, the game ended up being played with the roof closed.
"We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field, along with some additional small debris, while the roof was in the process of opening," an AT&T Stadium spokesperson said, via CBS News.
Following the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones blamed the incident on 20 mph wind gusts the area had experienced that afternoon.
"I’ll tell you right now what you had: You had heavy winds in this area during the day and apparently right about the time when we opened it, the winds had compromised part of the roof," Jones explained. "Well then it had that piece, the wind took it and got under it. Rest assured, all of that kind of stuff is done out of the way of any fan or customer or anybody like that."
