11/19/2024: A couple more dry days, then much-needed rain
The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:
High pressure in control this morning is keeping us bright and dry. But an approaching weather system will bring us some much-needed rainfall in a few days time.
So enjoy the sun while it lasts - highs peak in the low to mid 50's this afternoon, roughly 5 degrees above average for late November.
Tonight is another cool one, with lows down into the mid 30's for the core of the Capital District. Up north, many will drop to around freezing.
Tomorrow is the last of the dry days, so if you've got any yardwork that needs to be taken care of, do it sooner rather than later! Expect highs in the low 50's with more in the way fo cloud cover.
Overnight and into Thursday morning, the much-anticipated weather system moves in. While the majority of our area stays above freezing for the duration of this storm, the hills and mountains will get down around freezing Thursday night and into the day Friday. As a result, snow is expected in the high terrain - highest totals and greatest impacts will likely be in the Catskills, but it remains too early to put even ballpark numbers on the snowfall forecast. Stay tuned, we'll be able to go into more detail as the storm approaches in the coming days.
The bulk of the precipitation is out of here for the weekend, though gusty winds out of the west could sent a few stray lake effect rain or snow showers out way.
Finally quieter for the following Monday, though it will be cool with 30's in the morning and mid to upper 40's in the afternoon.
