Metro man dealing with water leak for about a month

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Water is leaking down multiple streets in an Oklahoma City neighborhood and one resident said it's been happening for weeks and he just wants it fixed.

Bryan Shelton said the City of Oklahoma City came out and "fixed" a water main break in his front yard, but now almost a month later, water continues to run from his yard throughout the neighborhood.

"It seems kind of a waste of water," said Shelton.

Water has been leaking down multiple streets in Shelton's neighborhood. Dirt, rocks and debris leading back to his front yard.

"I discovered there was no water in the house," said Shelton. "My neighbor called to inform me that there was a geyser in my front yard."

Shelton said the City sent a crew to his house over three weeks ago to repair the water main break.

"Two days later, after they'd completed the main water break, I noticed water still running down the street," said Shelton. "We still have water running down our street. So, the main fix originally was not done in a manner where it needed to be obviously."

Shelton said he calls the City daily and is starting to worry the issue isn't a priority.

"They tell me that they have no schedule per say because of the amount of workload that they have. They're processing the code ones. This happens to be a code three," said Shelton. "I kind of feel like they might have put me on the back burner."

The City said they are aware of the situation, sending us the following statement.

Our Line Maintenance crews repaired an issue with the water main on November 4. The issue was significant and classified as Code 1, our highest priority level for repairs.

Unfortunately, it seems there is another weak point on the same main, resulting in a new leak that now requires attention. This leak is classified as a Code 3, placing it lower on our priority list. Given the size of our system and the demands on our repair crews, repair timelines can vary significantly and are challenging to predict in advance. That said, we have been able to schedule this repair for later this month and anticipate completing it by Thanksgiving. Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns in the meantime.

Shelton said he's concerned as the temperatures are changing.

"I think we're in for some cold or freezing weather this weekend, which might create some hazards," said Shelton.

City officials said after crews go back and make repairs, they will return within 30 days to clean up their mess.
