New York prosecutors say they oppose dismissing Trump’s hush money conviction

New York prosecutors say they oppose any effort to dismiss Trump’s hush money conviction, but they might be open to delaying his sentencing until after his impending second term. They laid out their position in a court filing Tuesday. Trump’s lawyers have asked for the case to be dismissed in light of his election. Trump was convicted in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a scheme to influence the 2016 election by paying hush money to a porn actor who said they’d had sex. Trump denies the allegations. Judge Juan M. Merchan halted proceedings last week after prosecutors asked for time to assess next steps in the wake of Trump’s election. Trump had been due to be sentenced on Nov. 26. Merchan has not set a timetable for his decision.
