UConn freshman Liam McNeeley was named Big East Freshman of the Week in its first weekly conference honor of the season. 

In UConn’s lone contest of the week against Le Moyne, McNeeley scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting and knocked down a trio of three-pointers in a 90-49 rout. Alex Karaban led all scorers with 17 points for the Huskies, one of five from Connecticut to finish in double figures.

Its last game against Southern had nine lead changes, but East Texas A&M had a two-point lead with 14 seconds to play and came away with a stop on the defensive end to beat the Jaguars, 70-68, on Wednesday night to win its home opener.

Khaliq Abdul-Mateen led the way with 16 points in the first half for the Lions. He finished the game with 18 points, six field goals, and four three-pointers, tying his career-high in all three categories.
