US urges Turkey not to host Hamas Leaders

0

The United States has warned Turkey against hosting Hamas leaders, stating that leaders of a “terrorist organization” should not live in comfort.

A Turkish official denied reports of Hamas relocating its office to Turkey, saying members of the group only occasionally visit the country.

The U.S. State Department noted reports suggesting that some Hamas leaders have moved to Turkey. However, Matthew Miller, the department’s spokesperson, said the U.S. could not confirm these reports.

Miller emphasized that leaders of a terrorist organization should not live comfortably anywhere and reiterated that some Hamas leaders are wanted by the United States and should be handed over.

The spokesperson also advised Turkey that its dealings with Hamas could no longer continue as they had in the past, signaling a shift in Washington’s approach to the issue.

Qatar, meanwhile, announced last week that it has urged both Hamas and Israel to demonstrate seriousness in resuming negotiations, warning that mediation efforts for a Gaza ceasefire and a hostage-release agreement would be halted otherwise.

Doha also rejected media reports claiming it had asked Hamas to leave Qatar, clarifying that such reports were inaccurate.

The rising tensions in the Middle East have heightened concerns about broader regional instability, particularly as Turkey, a NATO member, continues to criticize Israel for its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

Turkey does not classify Hamas as a terrorist organization, further straining relations with the U.S. and Israel.

The confrontation between Iran and Israel also adds to the escalating crisis. With Tehran backing groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, and Israel responding with intensified military action, the region faces a growing risk of a larger conflict that could draw in more nations and destabilize the Middle East further.
