Over 300 Afghan refugees deported from Iran and Pakistan return home
Officials from the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation have reported that over 300 Afghan refugees were deported from Iran and Pakistan and have returned to Afghanistan.
The Bakhtar News Agency reported on Tuesday, November 19 that 323 Afghan families were deported from Iran and Pakistan and re-entered Afghanistan through various border crossings.
According to the report, the deported refugees returned to Afghanistan through the provinces of Kandahar, Nangarhar, Nimroz, and Herat.
The deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan comes as the trend of forced expulsions from neighboring countries, particularly Iran and Pakistan, has seen a significant rise in recent months.
This follows a recent announcement by the United Nations, which revealed that over two million Afghan refugees have been deported from Iran and Pakistan in the past year.
The growing number of deportations has placed immense pressure on Afghanistan, which is already grappling with an economic and humanitarian crisis, leaving many returnees without basic support or resources.
The escalating deportations of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries highlight the deteriorating regional tolerance for hosting displaced populations.
This surge in expulsions has created immense strain on Afghanistan’s limited infrastructure and humanitarian resources, exacerbating an already dire situation for returnees who often arrive with little to no support.
Furthermore, the forcible deportation of Afghan refugees has raised concerns among human rights organizations about violations of international refugee conventions. Many deportees report facing harassment, lack of due process, and inadequate time to prepare for their return, underscoring the urgent need for a coordinated international response to address this growing crisis.
