St. Mary Parish to get new $2 million fire station
ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Four Corners area will be getting a new, eight-acre fire station.
The fire station will be located off La. Highway 318 in St. Mary Parish.
Fire Chief Clarence Clark, of St. Mary Parish District 11, said the station looks to enhance the safety and well-being of residents.
"Everything is going to be in one centralized location to where we can be proud to say when the tones drop, we can actually go out and provide the services to our community a whole lot faster," Clark said.
Clark said the expanded fire station will allow the staff to hire more firefighters. Clark said the facility will also store new training rooms, offices, dayrooms, and storage rooms for equipment.
"It's almost impossible to give the firefighters the training that they need, also we started managing our station around hurricanes and now the same area where everybody has to cook and watch TV is also the same area where we have to actually sleep at night," Clark said.
Clark said the station will also house other emergency services in the parish.
"The community has one big building, the West St. Mary Civic Center, that was built about, I want to say 15 years ago. But the next, newest building is going to be this modernized fire station that's going to basically be used as the entire emergency services provider for this area," he said.
The fire station is expected to be completed in two years, according to Clark.
