Law allowing craft distilleries to ship products now in effect

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York’s craft cideries and distilleries are now able to ship their products directly to New Yorkers and consumers in other states with similar alcohol laws. The state's direct to consumer law is now in effect.

Nine Pin Cider Works celebrated the new law by shipping out some of their first orders on Monday. It allows craft distilleries to sell and ship their products in New York and across state lines.

Distillers said it's a big milestone for the state's craft beverage industry.

"The ability for farm ciders to get their products on the shelf is lacking," Nine Pin General Manager Sonya Del Peral said. "With the ability to get their product to the consumers, that'll put pressure on the other tiers to carry those ciders as well."

The direct-to-consumer law also applies to out of state producers.
