Jubane case docs to stay sealed; Trial date in September 2025

HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) -- Investigative documents in the murder of Providence nurse Melissa Jubane will remain sealed, and her accused killer won't stand trial until September 9, 2025.

Those were the rulings from the Washington County judge in the case against Bryce Schubert. The 27-year-old is accused of first-degree murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse.

Local media outlets requested the judge release the 50-plus page affidavit because it is a public record.

Both the state and the defense argued the records should remain sealed, as well as their clients.

"They both strongly oppose this motion, as well," Chief Deputy DA Jeffrey Lesowski said. "And we respectfully ask the court to not grant" the motion.

The judge denied that request because it remains an active investigation and she wants the trial to be fair.

The judge also set a September trial date for Schubert, with another court appearance in December for a status hearing.

Outside the courthouse, the Filipino advocacy group Gabriella Portland rallied to show support for Jubane's family.

"We're trying to show that we're watching this case because we don't want to let get another case of violence against women to be swept under the rug by the justice system," said the group's Christianne Mae Carrillo.
