1. Michael Clarke (Australia) – 329*
The former Australian skipper went all-out in the Sydney Test of the 2012 Border-Gavaskar series and played one of the finest knocks in Test cricket history as a whole. This fantastic triple-century saw Australia post a humongous first inning total of 659/4 before they ended up declaring.
2. VVS Laxman (India) – 281
In one of the most impressive turnarounds in Indian cricket history, Laxman and Rahul Dravid’s formidable stand of 376 runs would carry the Men in Blue to a brilliant second inning total of 657/7 in the 2nd Test of the 2001 Border-Gavaskar series in Kolkata. Laxman was the star performer with his incredible knock, which saw him smacking the Aussies all around Eden Gardens.
3. Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 257
The legendary Australia batter absolutely smashed the Indian bowling attack all around the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the 2003 Border-Gavaskar series to carry the hosts to a mammoth first inning total of 558. In this knock, Ponting would score a total of 25 boundaries and formed impressive partnerships even with the tail-enders.
4. Sachin Tendulkar (India) – 241*
Regarded as one of the finest knocks ever played by an Indian batter in overseas conditions, Tendulkar’s fabulous unbeaten innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) saw the visitors post one of the highest Test totals ever posted on Australian soil at 705/7. The legendary Indian batter was assisted well by Laxman, who also played a tremendous knock of 178.
5. Rahul Dravid (India) – 233
In the 2nd Test of the 2003 Border-Gavaskar series, Ponting’s double-century in the first innings got cancelled out by a magnificent knock from Dravid, who alongside Laxman (148) once again saved India’s sinking ship. Thanks to these incredible knocks, India would end up posting a total of 523, which was quite close to Australia’s first inning total of 566.
