PCB appoints Aaqib Javed as Pakistan’s new interim white-ball coach within 24 hours of dismissing rumours of Jason Gillespie being removed
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed as the new interim head coach of the white-ball team. Javed is going to lead Pakistan’s ODI and T20I teams till the Champions Trophy, set to begin in Pakistan from February 19.
Jason Gillespie was the temporary coach for the duration of the ODI and T20I series in Australia after the resignation of Gary Kristen from the white-ball coaching. Javed will continue as the senior member of the men’s National Selection Committee as he stays with the senior men’s squad.
The PCB had earlier denied reports on Jason being fired as the head coach for all three formats. He will still serve as the head coach for Pakistan’s two-match Test series against South Africa, set to begin December 26.
“PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa,” the PCB wrote in a statement.
Pakistan cricket has experienced a lot of coaching changes in their staff this year. After Pakistan failed to go past the group stage of Men’s T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies, Gary had resigned from his position.
