COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Gas prices in the Columbus area continue to fall at a steady rate heading into the holiday season and continue to dispel the myth between fuel prices and politics.

According to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in the Columbus area, the average price at the pump fell by 8.6 cents per gallon last week to reach an average of $2.88. The current price is 20 cents per gallon lower than last month and 29.6 cents per gallon lower than this time one year ago.

The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $2.69 a gallon, while the most expensive was $3.19, a difference of 50 cents per gallon. In Ohio, the average price of gas also fell by 1.7 cents from $2.84 per gallon to $2.82 per gallon.

Nationally, gas prices also experienced a small decline of 0.7 cents per gallon to reach $3.2, while the price of diesel continues to hit new lows since January 2022, settling at $3.52 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan, the decline in fuel prices is widespread in the United States, save for a few exceptions, due to supply and demand, and Ohio is one of 28 states across the country to see prices under $3.

“The good news is that those states that saw large jumps last week will likely see some of the biggest declines at the pump this week, paving the way for the national average to fall, potentially below $3 per gallon, just in time for Thanksgiving.” De Haan said.
