The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that Kuwait has contributed $500,000 to address urgent needs and assist vulnerable individuals in Afghanistan.

In a message posted on X /Twitter on Monday, November 18, OCHA stated that this is Kuwait’s first humanitarian contribution to Afghanistan in 2024.

According to OCHA, over 23 million people in Afghanistan are currently in need of humanitarian assistance.

The agency emphasized that an urgent budget of $603.5 million is required to address the needs of vulnerable areas in Afghanistan during this year’s winter season.

OCHA noted that so far, only a small portion of the requested funds has been secured.

Previously, France announced a contribution of €3 million for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, highlighting the growing international response to the crisis.

United Nations agencies have repeatedly warned about decreasing budgets and rising levels of need in Afghanistan, calling for immediate global action.

The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan remains severe, with millions in urgent need of aid amidst dwindling resources. The contributions from Kuwait and France are a step forward, but the funding gap highlights the need for sustained international support.

As winter approaches, ensuring timely assistance is critical to preventing further suffering. The global community must prioritize funding and coordinated efforts to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian challenges and provide relief to its most vulnerable populations.
