Meet new bowling coach of Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore team in IPL 2025, he worked with Rohit Sharma’s side before this
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a surprising new choice as the bowling coach of the team for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. According to media reports, Mumbai Ranji Trophy head coach Omkar Salvi is set to take over as bowling coach of Virat Kohli’s RCB team next year.
Salvi, who worked as assistant coach of IPL 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has been employed with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) after his KKR job got over this year. His contract with Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai team comes to an end in March 2025 as the head coach.
“He has been appointed as bowling coach for RCB for the forthcoming season, he has expertise and has worked with other franchises too,” a source confirmed. RCB will be making an official announcement for the same soon.

Omkar Salvi is incidentally the brother of former India fast bowler Avishkar Salvi. Under his tenure, the Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy 2023 title and he is known to be a coach who likes to stay behind the scene. Salvi played only one List A game for Railways against Madhya Pradesh in 2005.
Earlier, this year RCB had appointed former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for the 2025 season. Karthik and Salvi have worked together for the Knight Riders in the past too. RCB had decided to part ways with their previous bowling coach, Adam Griffith, after the IPL 2024 season.
Kohli’s side are still looking to win their maiden IPL crown but have decided not to retain their current captain Faf du Plessis. There was speculation that Kohli maybe in line to return as RCB captain but RCB team management haven’t confirmed this development.
“As for the captaincy, there are many rumours, but we haven’t made any decisions yet. The only clear decision we’ve made is not to retain Faf, who has been a great leader. We’re grateful for his contributions, but he will go to the auction. We are keeping an open mind about captaincy and will consider it a key aspect of our auction planning,” Mo Bobat told Jio Cinema.
The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place in Jeddah, South Africa, on November 24 and 25. The RCB have retained only three players – Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal.
