DRYING laundry can be a real chore at the best of times, but trying to get clothes dry over the colder winter months can feel almost impossible.
Whether you use a tumble dryer, clothes airer or any other trick to dry your clothes, there’s a savvy trick you should always use.
The trick was shared by Queen of Clean Lynsey Crombie on Instagram and it’s left fellow cleaning fans amazed by how simple it is.
This comes as Lynsey shared a reel on the social media app showing off all the cheap and savvy ways to dry your washing this winter.
But perhaps her most effective is the one you can try before even taking your laundry out of the washing machine.
“Don’t forget that extra spin or that double spin to get that water out,” the cleaning whizz said.
Almost all washing machines will have a ‘spin’ or ‘spin and drain’ option.
After washing your clothes as you usually would, simply switch the setting to one of these options to give them a head start with drying.
The hack is especially useful for heavier items like towels, which generally take longer to dry.
You can use the hack even if you plan on putting the laundry in the tumble dryer too.
Lynsey also shared some other tricks for drying off clothes over the winter months.
According to the cleaning whizz you should never put wet clothes directly on the radiator.
Instead, the keen cleaner suggested using a clothes airer that you can hook onto the radiator.
You can also get your hands on a clothes airer that sits over your bath if you’re particularly short on space, she added.
And if you are using a tumble dryer, Lynsey said to make sure you clear the filter of any lint so it’s the most efficient.
More ways to speed up drying clothes this winter
There are some other savvy tricks to help you save money and get your clothes dry in a hurry, cleaning whizz Anita Birges also shared some of hers on TikTok recently.
According to Anita, the “biggest mistake” people make when drying their clothes is doubling them up when hanging them on a rail.
Instead, she recommended grabbing a hanger and hanging your damp clothes up the way you would as if they were in a wardrobe.
She explained that this helps by increasing airflow, speeding up the drying time.
For wet socks, she recommended putting them over your hand like glove, and using a hair dryer on them, turning your hand for equal coverage.
Anita also explained that damp towels can be due to a lack of air circulation.
To combat this, she recommended opting for towel rails over hooks as this prevents the material from bunching up, giving it air to breathe.
You can also hang your wet towels on a hanger that looks similar to a clothes hanger.
