Midriffs & slinky dresses – how Kate & Pippa Middleton landed themselves the ‘Sizzler Sisters’ title in the 2000s

THE EARLY Noughties were a wild time for most of us – and the royal sister duo, Princess Kate and Pippa Milddleton, were no exception.

The bubbly pair even landed themselves the ”Sizzler Sisters” title when the future Queen of England split up with Wills.

After Kate and William started dating in 2003, the couple went their separate ways in 2007, when Wills didn’t feel ready to commit – and it’s been reported that he allegedly ended the relationship over the phone.

Thankfully, it all worked out for the pair who went on to tie the knot in a jaw-dropping ceremony in 2011 and became parents to three wonderful kids.

However, while Kate – at the time around 25 – was getting used to being a singleton, she was supported by her little sister, Pippa, who was seen hitting the town in several society magazines with her.

As papped snaps of the Middleton duo filled the newspapers, Tatler magazine gave the pair a title – the Sizzle Sisters – which was difficult for Wills to ignore.

Explaining that Kate’s makeover was nothing short of startling, author Robert Jobson said in his recent biography of the Princess of Wales: ”Gone were the frumpy tweeds as she stepped out in a slinky off-the-shoulder top and silky skirt, with a bare midriff and caramel tan.”

After a much-needed getaway in Dublin, Ireland, from the media scrutiny, young Kate started going out – as a single woman.

The brunette beauty, enjoying her fun-filled life, was often seen dancing all night with mates.

Her younger sister, Pippa, moved in with her in Chelsea and joined Kate at parties and events at some of London’s swankiest clubs.

”Catherine accepted a slew of invitations and, in public at least, appeared more vibrant and sociable than she had been for some months,” Robert wrote.

At the time it was reported how Kate ”stepped out” with Pippa, ”strolling hand in hand in the full glare of a dozen paparazzi flashlights”.

However, the break-up didn’t last long and their reunion was publicly confirmed when Kate attended the Concert for Diana, organised by William and Prince Harry in honour of the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, in July 2007.

A few years later, in 2010, the future King of England got down on one knee during a romantic trip the loved-up duo took to Kenya, where they stayed in a cabin hut on a wildlife reserve.

Speaking about the split during their 2010 engagement interview, Wills reflected on his and Kate’s time apart, saying: “We were both very young, it was at university, and we were both sort of defining ourselves as such and being different characters.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's affectionate nicknames for each other

ROYAL editor Ingrid Seward told The Sun’s Royal Show that the Prince and Princess of Wales have some rather informal pet names for one another.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Correspondent Matt Wilkinson, she said: “Prince William was Big Willie, I think.

“Kate was Babykins, But people change their nicknames every time.”

Ingrid added that King Charles often refers to Queen Camilla as “darling” or “beloved.

”It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up.”

Kate added: “I at the time wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person.

”You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.

”I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger, and I really valued that time for me, as well.”
