London Senior Cup Second Round
Team: Salamon, Putman, Manufor, McCann, Leahy, Tarbotton, Neill, Petrie, Murphy, Hassan, Kennedy
Attendance: 185
On a damp Tuesday night at the Rogers Family Stadium, it was Matteo Salamon, whilst under pressure, who nutmegged his opponent before clearing the ball to safety.
The first shot of the evening was provided by Luke Ifil, but his effort lacked power.
Whilst at the other end, Harry Murphy’s chip was comfortably held by the Borough keeper.
Following a heavy challenge, Mr Attoh booked Addison Garnett.
On 24 minutes, a superb pass found Harry Murphy, but the R’s No.10 somehow tapped the ball wide of the upright after facing Andrew McCorkell one-on-one.
For the home side, Luke Ifil’s superb cross from the right was met by Dernell Wynter in the six-yard box, and his half-volley brought an outstanding point-blank save from the R’s keeper.
Just after the half-hour mark, Javon Marquis went down and it was immediately obvious that it was serious. Medical teams from both sides soon arrived to administer help.
A stretcher was also on-hand and after 8 minutes or so, with his arm in a sling, he managed to head for the dressing room wearing an oxygen mask.
Jethro Odumosu’s strike from outside the box forced a flying save from the R’s keeper.
Then, a couple of minutes later, after the ball had been given away, Matteo Salamon denied Mack Miskin from close range.
However, ten minutes into added time, the R’s took the lead, following a great run by Kieran Petrie down the right-flank. The R’s No.7 then set-up Ridwan Hassan, who proceeded to tap the ball home. Five minutes later Mr Attoh blew for half-time.
After the break it was the home side who were certainly having the best of it. Dan Williams’ shot from 20-yards was saved by Matteo Salamon. Then, Harry McCorkell’s left-footed strike was blocked by an R’s defender.
It was no surprise when the hosts equalised after 55th minutes. Kai Hamilton-Olise’s shot received a slight deflection before entering the net.
Two minutes later, Andrew McCorkell did well to keep out Kieran Petrie’s goal attempt.
Jaiden Putman was shown a yellow card around the hour-mark, after he had fouled Kai Hamilton-Olise.
On 64 minutes, Paul Furlong introduced Rocco Friel at the expense of Noah McCann.
As the R’s looked to retake the lead, a ball intended for Rico Kennedy was met by a Borough defender, who then put it behind.
Seventeen-year-old Cory Adjetey-Brew replaced Sam Manufor on 71 minutes, which in turn saw Jake Leahy slot in at centre-back.
Bailey Lamb got away with a very naughty off-the-ball challenge on Ridwan Hassan.
A good move involving Harry Murphy, led to Rico Kennedy firing just wide of the far-post.
On 85 minutes, Rico Kennedy was brought down in the box and despite big shouts for a penalty, Mr Attoh wasn’t interested.
The final change came a minute later which saw Philip Sanyaolu coming on for Kieran Petrie.
Into the five added minutes, and Harry McCorkell’s header was comfortably held by the R’s keeper.
At the final whistle, both sides then prepared themselves for the decisive penalty shoot-out.
- 1. The home side got their noses in front with a shot down the middle.
- 2. 1-1 when Harry Murphy placed the ball, low into the corner.
- 3. Bailey Lamb for the hosts then sent the R’s keeper the wrong way.
- 4. Andrew McCorkell’s first antic saw the Borough captain advance from his line and lift the ball and move it. Undeterred, Ridwan Hassan planted the ball in the net.
- 5. Next up was substitute Leo Sery who made no mistake,
- 6. Jake Leahy levelled the scores again when he belted the ball in the corner.
- 7. Matteo Salamon did well to get a hand to the ball, but he couldn’t keep out Jordan Hamilton-Olise’s spot-kick.
- 8. As Rocco Friel walked up, Mr Attoh finally lost patience with Andrew McCorkell’s mind games and booked him. The teenage right-back then shot wide of the keeper, 4-4.
- 9. The Borough keeper then successfully dispatched the ball to Matteo Salamon’s right.
- 10. Next up was Fraser Neill. The 16-year-old’s shot was parried away by McCorkell.
The match programme also covered Borough’s league game against Leatherhead three days earlier and was good value at £2.00.
Harrow Borough will go on to face either Cray Wanderers or Erith Town in the next round.
