The iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai, standing tall at 828 meters (2,717 feet), currently holds the record as the world’s tallest building. However, this title may soon be taken over by a new skyscraper planned in the United States. The upcoming ‘Big Bend’ tower in Manhattan, New York, is expected to break the record, reaching new architectural heights.

‘Big Bend’ Tower in Manhattan

According to a report by The US Sun, the Big Bend is set to become the world’s longest building with a distinctive inverted U-shape design. This skyscraper will stretch up to 4,000 feet, making it significantly taller than Burj Khalifa. The unique structure has been designed not only to maximize height but also to navigate around New York City’s stringent planning laws and reduce construction costs.

Innovative Design Of ‘Big Bend’

Skyscrapers in the U.S. often face high construction costs due to their towering heights. The curved design of the Big Bend offers a creative solution, allowing developers to gain more vertical space without the additional expenses typically associated with taller buildings. By leveraging zoning laws that permit purchasing air rights from neighboring buildings, the project can maximize its height without increasing costs. This innovative structure enables developers to build higher on smaller plots, thereby reducing overall expenses.

Taller than Burj Khalifa by 1,000 Feet

If completed successfully, the Big Bend in Manhattan will surpass the Burj Khalifa by 1,000 feet, leaving it behind as the tallest building in the world. Additionally, this new structure will be taller than New York’s One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower). The design features a grid of windows and elevators on both sides, operating in a continuous horizontal loop, offering a unique architectural experience.

‘Big Bend’ Design

Experts working on the project emphasize that by bending the structure instead of bending zoning rules, they can create one of Manhattan’s most iconic buildings. Despite its ambitious design, the Big Bend has faced criticism. Renowned New York architects, such as Steven Holl, argue that these skyscrapers represent architectural inequality.
