India has no shortage of luxury car enthusiasts, and among them is Yohan Poonawalla, who recently added the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Maybach S 680 to his collection last month. Now, his lineup of luxury cars has an extraordinary addition: the 2016 Range Rover Autobiography, once owned by Queen Elizabeth of Britain, which he has now acquired.  He was quick to move before interest in the royal car piqued from buyers around the world contacting the seller in a bid to acquire the remarkable piece of history on wheels.

Yohan Poonawalla recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, talking about his very special SUV. In the photo, he can be seen with his blue Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography on the streets of London. He writes, “Here’s my 2016 Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography Long Wheelbase.” Featuring a luxurious ivory interior, this long-wheelbase 4.4-liter V8 edition is known for its impressive presence and superior performance.

“I am delighted to have acquired this remarkable piece of automotive history. The fact that it still retains the same registration number OU16 XVH, as used by the late Queen, turned out to be an added bonus”.

According to media reports, Bramley Auctioneers had listed the car on their website with the price set the price at whooping £379,850.

Remarkably, the Range Rover still bears the same number plate it had during its service to Queen Elizabeth II, a rare occurrence according to car salesman Jack Morgan-Jones of Bramley Motor Cars. “Normally, they endeavour to change the registration number when a car has been in royal service, but in this case, the reg will stay the same, so there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this was the car used by the Queen,” explained Morgan-Jones to Sky News.

Yohan Poonawalla further writes that this Range Rover is incredibly special because it previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. This SUV carries historical significance and tells a tale of royal heritage.  The 2016 Range Rover SDV8 Autobiography LWB 4.4-Liter edition, dressed in Loire blue with ivory interior, gained global attention during the UK state visit of former U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in 2016. In footage broadcast worldwide, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was seen driving the vehicle with President Obama in the front passenger seat, while Queen Elizabeth II and Michelle Obama sat comfortably in the back.

Yohan Poonawalla’s car collections

Yohan Poonawalla’s extraordinary collection also includes a 1979 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine, which was once owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II. This limousine was used during state visits, including the Queen’s 1983 tour of Sweden. His collection is further enriched by not only the latest Land Rover Defenders but also a 1951 Series 1 model that once belonged to the Maharaja of Kutch, the one driven by the Queen. With the addition of this royal Range Rover, his collection continues to grow in prestige.

As one of India’s foremost collectors of royal cars, Yohan Poonawalla has amassed an impressive collection of historically significant motorcars. The “Yohan Poonawalla Collection” features vehicles previously owned by prominent figures such as Maharajas, Nawabs, Sheikhs, Presidents, and even the Pope.

Last year, Yohan made history by becoming the first Indian ever to appear in the global ranking of the ‘Top 100 Classic Car Collectors of the World’ published by the Europe-based Classic Car Trust (TCCT). Later in the year, he received the prestigious ‘Classic Car Ambassador of the Year Award’ at the Historic Motoring Awards by Octane, held in November at the Dorchester in London.
