Senior UN Official: Actions in Gaza resemble gravest International Crimes

0

Joyce Msuya, the interim head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, has stated that actions reminiscent of the gravest international crimes are occurring in Gaza.

She described Israel’s recent month-long attacks on Gaza as a more intense, ruthless, and hasty version of last year’s horrors.

In a United Nations Security Council meeting, Msuya reported that Palestinian civilians have been forcibly displaced by the Israeli military, witnessing the killing, burning, and live burial of family members.

The senior UN official characterized Gaza under Israeli attacks as a wasteland of rubble.

She warned the Security Council, “We are witnessing actions reminiscent of the gravest international crimes.”

Msuya added, “The daily cruelty we are witnessing in Gaza seems to have no end.”

She also held Israel responsible for preventing aid from entering northern Gaza.

Israel’s attacks on Gaza began immediately after Hamas’s October 7 attack last year, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and over 250 taken hostage.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, Israel’s retaliatory attacks on the strip have resulted in over 43,500 Palestinian deaths.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has led to severe humanitarian crises, with significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction. The international community faces the challenge of addressing these issues while seeking a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

Ensuring the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian aid are crucial steps toward mitigating the suffering in Gaza. It is imperative for all parties involved to adhere to international humanitarian laws to prevent further escalation and loss of life.
