NEW YORK (PIX11) – A large wildfire continued to burn along the border of New York and New Jersey on Tuesday.

The Jennings Creek wildfire has burned around 5,000 acres in just a few days in Passaic County, New Jersey, and Orange County, New York.

The wildfire was 30% contained as of Tuesday evening, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Dry conditions and strong wind gusts provided challenges for crews battling the fire.

The wildfire has burned around 2,500 acres in New York, making it the state’s largest wildfire since 2008, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.

New York issued a statewide "burn ban" on Tuesday that will remain in effect until Nov. 30 due to the increased risk of fires.

“As we experience drought conditions and an increased fire risk across the state, now is not the right time to be burning outdoors, and I urge everyone to heed our warnings as we continue to take the necessary precautions to keep all New Yorkers safe,” Hochul said Tuesday.
