Fatal crash in Rutland County, Vermont

SHREWSBURY, Vt. (NEWS10) -- The Vermont State Police reported responding to a crash on Cold River Road in Shrewsbury on Sunday. It was determined through the State Police's investigation that Macy Piersiak, 17, of Needham, Massachusetts, had died in the crash.

Troopers responded just after 4 a.m. on Sunday to the scene where they found that Piersiak was traveling south on Cold River Road when the driver drove off of the road and struck a tree head-on. According to the state police, Piersiak was pronounced dead on the scene and there were no other occupants in the car.

The Shrewsbury Fire Department, Rutland City Fire Department, and Regional Ambulance Service all assisted the Vermont State Police on the scene.
