Takayama and Aoyama make weight for Japanese title fight
Tomorrow at Korakuen Hall we get the next show from Shota Furusawa’s Dangan Promotions. The card isn’t a huge one, but does feature two bouts of note.
The first of those two bouts will be at Middleweight as Ran Tomomatsu (4-2-1, 1) [友松藍] clashes with Kazuki Kyohara (8-2-3, 3) [京原和輝] in a Japanese title eliminator, with the winner set to get a shot at the Japanese title during the Champion Carnival next year. On the scales Tomomatsu was 159.6lbs whilst Kyohara was slightly lighter, at 159.2lbs.
Tomomatsu explained that he’s expecting a rough bout against Kyohara, due to the rough style Kyohara has in the ring. As for Kyohara, it was revealed he’s been sparring in Korea, due to a difficulty in getting sparring partners in Japan.
The main event of the card will see Japanese Super Flyweight champion Suzumi Takayama (8-0, 7) [高山 涼深] take on Isao Aoyama (14-12-1, 4) [青山 功] in a bout that was originally scheduled for July but was postponed when Takayama had acute gastroenteritis, something he apologised for when the men took part at the weigh in today.
On the scales the champion, seeking his third defense of the title, was bang on the divisional limit and explained "I'm in perfect condition. I've been careful about my diet on a daily basis, and I've been conscious of not letting something like last time happen again," He later told the press "I want to win a match that makes people think that Takayama Suzumi is really strong."
As for Aoyama, he was well under the limit at 114.4lbs, for what will be his first title fight after almost 15 years in the professional ranks. He explained "I've done what I had to do, and although I'm old, I've done the very limit of what I can do." Regarding the cancellation in July Aoyama explained "I thought, No way! I got a call from the president (Celes Kobayashi, of the Celes Gym) while I was sleeping in my tatami room. So even though only my family had planned to go to the local Abiko festival, I said, 'I'll go too,' and went, and ate a lot of yakisoba."
