'Not complying in advance': DOJ insiders vow to jail Jan. 6 rioters until ordered to stop
The Justice Department is rushing to push through some of the worst Jan. 6 cases — including those of 75 people who have yet to be arrested — before Trump takes office, according to a report.
NBC News justice reporter Ryan Reilly said Monday that many in the DOJ "want to get over the line before Donald Trump is back in the White House."
Trump said on the campaign trail that Jan. 6 attackers would be pardoned of he was president. He later walked his statement back, claiming that he would look at each individually and it would be on a "case-by-case basis."

Trump also made it clear that there wouldn't be any more Jan. 6 prosecutions going forward under his Justice Department, the reporter noted.
"It's the only [department] that has, you know, this title in its name, justice," said Reilly.
He reported that a DOJ lawyer said they would not stop pushing for convictions until they were forced to.
"I talked to one of my sources who had recently been working on these cases, and he pointed to the first rule in Timothy Snyder's book 'On Tyranny.' The first thing you do is don't comply in advance.
"That's what this is about, not complying in advance and standing up for the principles of the Justice Department no matter what happens going forward," the reporter said.
