AUSTIN (KXAN) -- New FlixBus service operations are underway at the South Congress Transit Center, amid a new partnership between the intercity bus provider and CapMetro.

FlixBus will operate several bus schedules each day out of the South Congress Transit Center, which also houses fixed-route and bus rapid transit lines overseen by CapMetro. Officials said the new FlixBus stop at the South Congress Transit Center will allow more connection points for those seeking local services through CapMetro, per the release.

FlixBus' services connect to nearly 50 destinations from Austin, including Texas cities like Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.

"Our partnership with FlixBus represents CapMetro’s ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity across Central Texas, CapMetro's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Andrew Skabowski said in the announcement. “By enhancing connectivity at the South Congress Transit Center, we are making it easier for residents and visitors alike to access sustainable and affordable public transit options that support the growth of our vibrant region.”

CapMetro officials noted FlixBus' operations will be similar to Greyhound's, which runs out of the Eastside Bus Plaza. FlixBus' owner, Flix SE, acquired Greyhound services back in 2021.

Earlier this year, Megabus announced it had shuttered operations in Texas, including its routes to and from Austin.
