Oregon, Washington communities to celebrate Veterans Day with parades, ceremonies and concerts
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Communities across Oregon and Southwest Washington are gathering to commemorate Veterans Day on Monday. These various events include parades, ceremonies, as well as a benefit concert featuring country musicians. All of this to honor those who served in the United States Armed Forces.
Here is a selection of the Veterans Day events taking place in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Veterans Day Parade - Portland, Ore.
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard & Beech Street, Portland, OR 97212
Featuring marching bands, floats, vehicles and more, Portland's parade will march several blocks north past Alberta, ending at Northeast Emerson. There will also be a closing ceremony, with a vendor and resource fair held afterward at the Walnut Park complex parking lot found at 5305 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Veterans Day Ceremony - Salem, Ore.
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Oregon Capitol State Park, 725 Summer St NE, Salem, OR 97301
According to the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs, this ceremony will feature "remarks by dignitaries and special guests," along with a color guard, singing of the national anthem, a wreath laying and the playing of “Taps" - all in view of the Oregon Capitol Building,
Salute Our Veterans Show - Salem, Ore.
When: 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Salem Armory, 2310 17th St NE, Salem, OR 97303
Held at the Salem Armory, this benefit concert will will feature performances by country music stars Darryl Worley and William Michael Morgan, with local musician Joey James opening the show. 10% of the concert's proceeds benefiting VetCare, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital support to veterans in need.
Veterans Day Observance Ceremony – Wilsonville, Ore.
When: 10 a.m.
Where: Town Center Park, 29600 SW Park Place Wilsonville, OR 97070
Held at the Oregon Korean War Memorial, Mayor Julie Fitzgerald and other guests are set to speak at the event. Additionally, veterans, past Korean War Veterans Association members and first responders are set to be recognized.
73rd Annual Veterans Day Parade – Albany, OR
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Pacific Boulevard SE Albany, OR, 97231
With the theme of “Freedom: Continental Army to Space Force," the Veterans Day parade in downtown Albany has been one of the largest Veterans Day parades on the west coast. Expected to attract thousands of spectators, it will feature floats, bands, military vehicles, even some food carts staged at various points around the route.
36th Annual Lough Legacy Veterans Day Parade – Vancouver, Wash.
When: 11 a.m.
Where: Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1001 E 5th St, Vancouver, WA 98661
Hosted by the Historic Trust, this event intends to honor veterans and military history. Not only will there be a parade, but three World War II veterans who served in the Pacific and Europe will be in attendance and have stories to share.
