Mom pleads guilty to child neglect case a year later
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma woman is convicted of child neglect a year after Oklahoma City Police got a call that a 2-year-old boy had been shot in the leg. It happened in June of 2023.
News 4 was at the scene a year ago when officers first got the call.
When police got to the scene, they said Amy Marie was in the room along with three young children.
Court papers explain the two-year-old was jumping on the bed. Marie's purse, with a loaded gun inside, was also on the bed.
While the young boy was playing, court papers say Marie heard the gun go off and the bullet hit the toddler's right leg.
On the body camera footage, Marie can be heard telling officers she didn't know the gun was loaded.
Marie told officers her friend took the gun, but that person denied the statement, and court papers say the gun was never found.
While EMSA was helping the young boy, police noticed the pillow attached to the headboard.
An officer can be heard on the body camera footage saying he found the bullet.
While at the scene, police also found a blue pill inside Marie's purse and on the floor.
Court papers show Marie was at the Best Way Inn to meet her drug dealer and drop off fentanyl pills.
A year later, she pled guilty in court on three counts of child neglect and was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail.
