Tottenham star gave the ball away 26 times against Ipswich Town
A shocking stat has emerged which shows just how much of a shocker one Tottenham man had in Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town.
Bad performances from back to front for Tottenham
There is hardly a single Tottenham player who can hold his head up high after the performance on Sunday, with several abject displays for the home side from back to front.
Perhaps the most alarming aspect of the Lilywhites’ play was the number of unforced errors they made in possession, with the players constantly giving the ball away during the build-up.
This was the same issue that Ange Postecoglou‘s men faced in their defeats against Galatasaray and Crystal Palace, which suggests that this could be a deeper structural issue.
Pedro Porro’s shocking stat
Pedro Porro has arguably been Tottenham’s most consistent player since Postecoglou arrived through the door last year.
However, the right-back was among the worst offenders when it came to giving the ball away on Sunday, delivering what was undoubtedly his poorest display of the season.
According to The Spurs News, the Spaniard gave possession away a whopping 26 times over the course of the game against Ipswich, and he completed just 47 out of his 61 passes, finishing with a pass success rate of just 77 per cent.
Was fatigue a factor?
A number of Tottenham players, including Pedro Porro, Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson seemed to be lacking in intensity and sharpness against Ipswich. That is perhaps down to their exertions against Galatasaray just three days before the game.
While one can sympathise with Postecoglou, given the injuries he has been dealing with, his squad management has not been ideal this week, particularly given that the clash at Turkey was always going to be difficult.
In hindsight, there was perhaps a case to be made by fielding as many youngsters as possible in Turkey and keeping the likes of Porro and Johnson sharp for the Ipswich game.
