Ange Postecoglou wants to make an addition to the Tottenham squad to offer competition to one player who has started every Premier League game for the Lilywhites this season, Alasdair Gold has revealed.

Most Spurs fans will agree that Guglielmo Vicario has been a hit since arriving at the club from Empoli last year.

Not only is the Italian an excellent shot-stopper and good with the ball at his feet, but he has also assumed a leadership role, being one of the most experienced players in a young Tottenham squad.

However, the 28-year-old has a major weakness when it comes to handling set-pieces, and opposition sides continue to target him by putting men around him during corner kicks.

Tottenham make transfer decision

Alasdair Gold has now revealed on his YouTube channel that Spurs have decided to enter the market for another goalkeeper.

The journalist revealed that Postecoglou wants to bring someone in who can serve as Vicario’s understudy and potentially even compete with the Spurs number one for a place in the starting eleven.

Gold adds that Tottenham could look to make this signing in the January window if the right opportunity presents itself.

Fraser Forster’s final season at Spurs?

Forster has been at Tottenham for two and a half years now and has proved an able deputy, first to Hugo Lloris and now to Vicario.

The Englishman has been a consummate professional but his contract at the North London club ends next summer and at 36 years of age, it is highly unlikely that Spurs will offer him a new contract.

However, perhaps Postecoglou would consider keeping the former Southampton man around for one more year should he agree to be the third choice between the sticks.
