How will the Rays score more runs in 2025?

On the newest episode of Rays Your Voice, we take a look at some external options the Rays might pursue to upgrade a historically bad offense in 2024. The three positions mentioned specifically by Erik Neander were catcher, shortstop, and center field.

Alex Jackson was DFA late last season and has since landed with Cincinnati, so that’s one opening to fill. We discuss names such as Danny Jansen, Max Stassi, and former Ray Travis d’Arnaud as potential targets.

Rays shortstop Taylor Walls is still on the roster now, but if Neander is looking to upgrade that position offensively, his plan for 2025 cannot be Walls with Jose Caballero as the understudy. We take a look at some more veteran options that could come in for a year until Carson Williams is ready, with Caballero remaining in his utility role.

For center field, the Rays can be a little more flexible. They still have Jose Siri and Jonny DeLuca, and could shift things around to improve outfield offensive production while keeping one or both of those guys. For example, the Rays could make DeLuca the primary center fielder, cut ties with Siri, and bring in a corner outfield bat to play left field.

Now, most of the moves discussed in this episode are fairly conventional. Looking at shorter deals with mid-level free agents. With so much uncertainty about where the Rays will be playing in 2025 and beyond, this offseason is set to be anything but conventional. The front office will almost certainly explore different methods of improving the roster for next year, but we are excited to see what moves are made.
