Veterans Day Parade in NYC: Street closures, schedule and more

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – One of the largest Veterans Day celebrations in the U.S. is taking place in New York City on Monday.

More than 20,000 people are expected to march in the 105th annual Veterans Day Parade along 5th Avenue.

The military branch featured in this year's parade is the U.S. Marine Corps. Here's what you should know:

Schedule

The parade is expected to kick off at 12:30 p.m. and will run until 3 p.m., according to organizers.

Street closures

These streets will be closed before, during and after the parade, according to the Department of Transportation:

  • Broadway between West 23rd Street and West 29th Street
  • Broadway between 5th Avenue and East 23rd Street
  • 5th Avenue between West 23rd Street and West 26th Street
  • West 24th Street between 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue
  • West 25th Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue
  • East/West 26th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
  • East/West 27th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
  • East/West 28th Street between Madison Avenue and 6th Avenue
  • 5th Avenue between 25th Street and 48th Street
  • East/West 45th Street between 6th Avenue and Madison Avenue

Grand Marshal

This year's grand marshal is Sgt. Dakota Meyer, who is the second-youngest living Medal of Honor recipient, organizers said.
