Gautam Gambhir clears air around captaincy, names THIS player to lead in Rohit Sharma’s absence
Indian cricket team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir named the player that will captain the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence. The latter is set to miss the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series that is set to be played in Perth from November 22.
Gambhir spoke at the press conference held on Monday ahead of the crucial 5-match Test series against Australia, and named pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah to lead the side in Rohit’s absence.
Bumrah, who is the vice-captain of the Indian team, last led the side in 2022 for India’s 5th Test against England in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
“Bumrah is vice captain; if Rohit is not available, he is going to be lead in Perth,” Gambhir told reporters at the press conference.
It will not be an easy task for Bumrah to lead the Men in Blue as he hasn’t captained the side much in the first place. On top of this, the first Test of the series will be crucial for the Indian team as they are coming off a series whitewash against New Zealand on home soil and will be looking to turn their favours around Down Under.
