The Everton Forum • Re: End of Moshiri - Friedkin, IT'S HAPPENING!!
I feel this very much encapsulates the opposite of what, understandably, parts of the fanbase feel at the moment, in a general sense. Not everything has to have an immediate positive impact, sometimes actually thinking ahead to later in the season can be a very wise thing.
Lives move quickly, a week is busy, yet Everton are still financially stricken, still have an average to poor squad, and aren't playing attractive football week after week. And we want this to be our escape, lived excitement, or simply some enjoyment in our busy lives, definitely not more hard work.
But no one rushes a builder and expects a quality end product. Especially when the foundations have been structurally deficient and on moving and shaky ground for such a long period of time, decades even. There is so much work needed before we're even 'above ground'.
In our case, 'customers' don't go elsewhere, but have their lofty expectations carved in stone, and skin. Everyone wants success. But there is an unavoidable large gap between current state and a hopeful future.
From the outside things don't appear to be changing as quick as they could/should, but from the inside there must be fast pedalling, even if it's just the promotional message, and perceptions that are being managed, until there is tangible evidence of improvement on a state of the art scoreboard.
If we think TFG are going to walk in and solve decades long problems instantly and without bumps along the way, as now we (almost) have a shiny new stadium, and money (that possibly can't yet be thrown around without stringency and ultra-careful consideration), I think we should just be kinder to ourselves so that we don't set ourselves up for disappointment.
As some philosophers and others agree, desire and ignorance (in the non-pejorative sense) lie at the root of suffering.
