Main Stand Redevelopment - an idea (12 replies)
There's been some rumours recently about plans for a refurb of the Main Stand in the summer. But is that going to add much extra capacity? If the club are selling out in league one and if the team will still be playing at St Andrews until probably 2030 then we seem to be constrained to a capacity of 28,500 for the next 6 years at least. Longer if the Sports Quarter is delayed.
Redeveloping the main stand would be costly. Possibly £15m-£20m and even then I think the best they can do is get the capacity up to 35k (ish) with the space they have. So, that kind of outlay doesn't make sense if you are planning to move to a new stadium.
But... what if the new stand could be moved to the sports quarter. Maybe to the second ground I'm guessing they are planning (if they want to replicate the Etihad Campus). A place where the u21s and women's team could play.
Stadium 974 at Qatar was planned to be temporary and was planned to be moved after the world cup (although it is still there). So, what if architects could design something that could be moved/recycled to the sports quarter? Does that make more sense if you make an investment in a new stand? Could it be done? And, should it be done?
