Seafreeze Cold Storage was formed in 1978 as a joint venture between Seafreeze (a cold storage warehouse company) and Sea Pro (a seafood processing company) at a location in the south end of the Port of Seattle. The facility was expanded five times over the next twenty years—changing ownership a few times along the way. By 2003, Seafreeze had discontinued its own food processing operations to focus on warehousing support for multiple on-site seafood and food processing companies. In 2008, Toyo Suisan Kaisha (a Japanese food conglomerate), sold the facility to Bay Grove Capital in the firm’s first deal in the warehousing and logistics space. CityIce’s cold storage roots go back as far as 1904. Over the years the business changed and moved several times before settling on the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 91.
