Hanson double bops unbeaten run on the head

Worcester Raiders played spoiler on a landmark occasion for Royal Wootton Bassett Town manager Sam Collier as an Adam Hanson doubled earned a come from behind 2-1 victory.

With Bassett suffering defeat in their manager's 400th game with the club, the result also brought to an end the impressive eight game league unbeaten run that had seen the team climb back into contention for the Hellenic League Premier Division playoffs.

Results elsewhere meant that a draw at the Sixways Stadium would have seen Bassett climb into the top five. Instead they will have to make do with sixth place as the halfway mark of the season draws ever closer.

That is still a strong position to be in.

However, with just six points currently separating third from 12th place, a quick return to winning ways will be needed when Bassett travel to Brimscombe and Thrupp on Tuesday - especially as the subsequent three fixtures pit them against three sides (Westfields, Tuffley Rovers and Mangotsfield United) who are all also in the mix.

Bassett led at Raiders when, shortly after the half hour mark, Chris Zebroski won the ball back and teed up Brad Pagliaroli to coolly slot home.

But the scores were soon level as Hanson produced a stunning bicycle kick.

Another fine Hanson goal ultimately decided the outcome of the game with quarter of an hour to go as he picked out the bottom corner with a 25 yard free kick.

Bassett had played well and could feel a little hard done by to have lost.

A great run has been brought to an end. Now the task is to start another one.
