PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A workplace sitcom slated to premiere next week is set in a small-town Oregon hospital.

The inaugural season of “St. Denis Medical” will debut on NBC on Tuesday, Nov. 12. It stars comedy veterans like Wendi McLendon-Covey from “Bridesmaids” and David Alan Grier from “In Living Color.”

According to NBC Insider, the series will follow the “mockumentary” style seen in popular shows like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation” — but with a focus on healthcare workers.

“An eclectic team of underfunded yet dedicated doctors, nurses and medical staff are doing their best not to lose their patience in an Oregon hospital overrun with patients — while caring for everyone who comes in the door, including each other,” NBC said in a description of the series.

“St. Denis Medical” is set in the fictional Oregon town of Merrick, which is also the name of co-creator Eric Ledgin’s real-life hometown in New York. Ledgin runs the show alongside Justin Spitzer. The duo previously produced NBC’s “Superstore” starring America Ferrera.

Ledgin previously told audiences he chose the Beaver State as the setting for the show after a real-life Oregon nurse helped him with the development process. That nurse served as an inspiration for Alex, a character who will be portrayed by Allison Tolman.

The latest clip of the series shows the nurse’s reaction to a doctor playing “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys before performing a surgery.

“I’ve done the math,” Alex said as the doctor danced. “We could perform three more surgeries a week if he would just stop doing… whatever that is.”

McLendon-Covey will portray St. Denis executive and former oncologist Joyce, while Grier will portray an emergency room doctor.

Two episodes of the 30-minute sitcom will premiere this Tuesday, followed by their Peacock streaming debut on Wednesday.
