Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner is expected to meet with superstar free agent Juan Soto and agent Scott Boras in southern California in the near future. This comes after the news that Steve Cohen is flying out to meet with the two next week as he attempts to court Soto to the Mets. Soto is undoubtedly one of the most coveted free agents in recent history, and Steinbrenner has to feel pressure from Cohen’s pursuit of the phenom. The Mets and Yankees are the expected frontrunners to land Soto.

Shamsky was nothing more than a part-time player at the time, and that mostly remained his role with the Mets, though he did see an increase in playing time from his days in Cincinatti. Shamsky was a member of the 1969 World Series team, hitting .368 in 19 at-bats during the postseason that year.
