Music fans react to 2025 Grammy nominations: Beyonce’s year at last, or another disappointment?
“I think it’s between Beyoncé, Charli [XCX] and [Billie] Eilish with [Sabrina] Carpenter as a dark horse,” said Gold Derby user silvestre in our forums in reaction to the 2025 Grammy nominations for Album of the Year, which were announced along with 93 other categories on November 8. “[Charli’s] ‘360’ getting the [Record of the Year] nod instead of the Mars/Gaga bait is huge.” Join the many lively discussions happening right now in our music forums, and see the complete list of Grammy nominations here.
Norwegian wondered, “Is Beyoncé repeating The Chicks situation? Snubbed from country music awards, huge backlash because of that, went on to win several Grammys including AOTY.” There’s a strong case to be made for Beyoncé as the Album of the Year front-runner as she has a leading 11 nominations, the most for any woman in a single year in Grammy history. Of course, Beyoncé has been burned before: her self-titled album lost in an upset to Beck‘s “Morning Phase.” Then “Lemonade” lost in an upset to Adele‘s “25.” And “Renaissance” lost in an upset to Harry Styles‘s “Harry’s House.” But now the Recording Academy could finally redeem her after she was completely shut out of the CMA Awards this fall.
“If Charli’s album wins over Beyoncé’s, I’m rioting,” promised Atleastimtrying. But OscarForLily countered, “Charli’s over (but deserved) performance has me over the moon! So well deserved. I am really manifesting the passion behind her AOTY win. It was HER year.” GhostfaceDilla thinks “Bey can win,” but warned that “Sabrina can win” too, and “as a shocker Andre [3000] can win.” But P(oweR) Valley argued, “I still don’t think it’s wise to underestimate someone like Billie,” who has won six times in the general field already. However, Huerco pointed out that “Billie missed crucial categories for her … Best Engineered Album and Producer Of The Year (Finneas). I think ‘Short n’ Sweet’ getting Eng nom and Amy Allen in Songwriter of the Year says a lot.”
Okay, so no one could actually agree on who’s winning Album of the Year at this point. PopGuy even made a case for Taylor Swift to win for the fifth time for “The Tortured Poets Department“: “Taylor wins big every time she has multiple nods in the [general field].” Perhaps it’ll become clearer by the time voting starts on December 12. Grammy voters will be filling out ballots all the way to January 3. For now, perhaps it’s best to look on the bright side of such a hotly contested race, like Vinny: “I have not one category I feel 100 percent on a winner on. This is a good thing since that means they nailed it.”
