Moore mother says paychecks were garnished for a debt that isn't hers

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) —A Moore mother said she was forced to quit her job because her check was being garnished for a debt she said she doesn't know anything about.

Priscilla Douglas said her paychecks have been garnished on and off since 2012 for a car she said she never signed for.

"I've been being robbed I guess, from my wage that I've earned my entire adult life," said Douglas.

Douglas said the issue goes back to 2012. A car dealership claims she owed them money because she co-signed for a 1999 Saturn.

"I've never been able to co-sign for anything in my life," said Douglas.

Douglas said she was first told she would have to pay $6,000, now she's being told she owes $22,000.

"I never been served, not once. They've been coming for me since 2012 and never have I been served," said Douglas.

Douglas said there were times when her paychecks weren't touched, then the company would come back and start garnishing her again.

"I don't know if the car was repossessed. I don't know if it was given back. I don't know who whose name is on the car. I don't know nothing," said Douglas.

The single mom of three said she doesn't feel like she should be paying someone else's debt.

Douglas said this has been stressful on her entire family.

"I don't care if you take from me, but you're making it hard for me to provide for my kids now, and that's when I have issues," said Douglas.

Douglas said thousands of dollars have already been taken from her checks.

Now she wants to prevent losing anymore money.

She said when she showed up to court last month, the attorney for the collection agency who is representing the now-defunct car dealership couldn't provide her much information.

News 4 tried calling and emailing her as well, but did not hear back.

"I want them to leave me alone and I want the courts to do something to where this is prevented," said Douglas.
