DONALD Trump’s astonishing political comeback threatens to widen the economic gulf between the US and Britain.

While the President-elect is bent on delivering tax cuts to get growth, our Government is putting them up to record levels and risking another lost decade in the process.

Ed Miliband’s mad dash to Net Zero will whack taxpayers with a bill of hundreds of billions of pounds — at a time when the UK’s electricity is already among the costliest in the world.

Trump is promising to “drill, drill, drill”, providing cheap energy from fracking — senselessly banned here.

Immigration, legal and illegal, drives down wages.

Voters believe Trump will tackle it to protect their jobs.

Contrast that with the meek response to the migrant problem here and the national insurance rise slapped on business, which will surely depress pay.

That’s why, for all the talk of a trade war over Trump’s threatened tariffs, Brexit Britain MUST strike its own lucrative deal with the US.

Americans are already richer than us.

If Trump’s medicine works — and Labour fails to grasp the opportunity his Presidency brings — we’ll be poorer still.

Railroaded

ANOTHER week and another lame capitulation to the unions.

No sooner had their rail counterparts received a bumper pay raise from Labour than Tube drivers threatened crippling strikes to extort the same.

Aslef called off industrial action after being offered an inflation-busting 4.5 per cent rise — taking pay over £67,500 for a four-day week not exceeding 35 hours.

Nice work if you can get it.

It’s the same old union playbook.

But if no-one is prepared to stand up to them, it will work every time.

Police heroes

OFTEN forgotten in the endless rows over policing is how ordinary officers regularly put their lives in danger.

The posthumous awarding of an Elizabeth Emblem to the widow of PC Andrew Harper and the fathers of Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone — murdered tackling gangster Dale Cregan — is a fitting tribute to their bravery.

We hope it brings some comfort and pride to their grieving families.

Caring Kate

PRINCESS Kate takes her many honorary military roles seriously, and she knows the importance of remembrance to the nation.

So it is great news that she will be at the Cenotaph on Sunday.

Our Armed Forces — and the country — will be delighted to see you, Ma’am.
