OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- An Arizona jockey has been accused of using electric shock devices on horses at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino in Opelousas, authorities said.

Martin Humberto Osuna, 29, of Tuscon, Arizona, is charged with falsifying information on a racing license, filing false public records, injuring public records and five counts of possession of device for unnatural stimulation of horses.

Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division conducted an investigation Thursday following reports of misconduct involving Osuna. Investigators said Osuna falsified information on a racing document, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Osuna was scheduled to participate in a race at Evangeline Downs and was detained upon his arrival at the venue. During a search following his arrest, troopers discovered five horse-shocking devices in Osuna’s possession, officials said.

Osuna was arrested and transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail. Bond details were not released.

The Louisiana State Police online reporting system is available to the public through an anonymous reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.
