'A scared weak man': Ex-GOP lawmaker dares Trump to come after him
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) on Friday all but dared President-elect Donald Trump to come after him.
During an interview with CNN's Sara Sidner, Kinzinger was asked if he was worried about a Trump Department of Justice criminally prosecuting him in retaliation for his work in investigating the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol.
"Thank you for asking this question because I have a lot of people asking it," he said. "I am absolutely the opposite of concerned about retaliation. Let's be clear: My opinion hasn't changed. Donald Trump is a scared, weak person. And he won the election. Congratulations... But he himself, because I know him, is a trembling, scared man... Obviously I did nothing illegal, so if you want to manufacture stuff? You know, it's still a democracy, you're not going to have that ability."

Kinzinger went on to say that any strength Trump has comes from intimidating people "with power he doesn't have."
"I know the power he doesn't have," Kinzinger emphasized. "And I am not intimidated by it."
Kinzinger also wrote a lengthy essay about this topic on his Substack page where he elaborated on reasons he does not fear the former president's threats.
"What Trump and his enablers don’t seem to understand is that I’m free from the shackles of political expediency. I didn’t get into this line of work to serve a political cult or bend the knee to any one person," the former GOP lawmaker argued. "I serve the Constitution and the country I swore an oath to protect. My loyalty is to the principles that make America strong, not to a man who’s turned our democracy into his personal grievance project."
