‘Don’t clap for that’: Ted Cruz’s teen daughter raises eyebrows over election night moment

Election night enthusiasm for former President Donald Trump felt by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) apparently wasn’t shared by other members of his family.

In a moment now going viral on TikTok, Cruz’s 16-year-old daughter can be seen visibly reacting to her conservative father’s praise of the president-elect during his victory speech in Texas on Tuesday night.

“I believe and I hope and pray that Donald Trump will be reelected as President of the United States,” Cruz, who won a third term to the U.S. Senate, told supporters on election night while surrounded by family and other supporters.

But before Cruz even completed the line, which supporters in the audience could be heard cheering, his daughter’s facial expression flipped from a cheerful smile to a disapproving scowl.

“Don’t clap for that,” she appeared to tell her mom, Heidi Cruz.

The eyebrow-raising moment has since racked up nearly 4 million views as of Thursday, according to media reports.

“She didn’t even try to hide it” one TikTok user wrote.

“The ‘don’t clap for that’ is so valid” another user quipped.

Cruz easily defeated his Democratic opponent, Rep. Colin Allred, in the ruby red state that extended its 30-year streak of not electing a Democrat to statewide office.

Cruz’s daughter has found herself in the spotlight for disagreeing with her father in the past.

In 2021 she made waves for knocking him in a now-deleted TikTok video.

“I really disagree with most of his views,” the teen said.
